The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) is not the “masters of the universe” even if the agency vaguely senses it is. NZTA chief executive Geoff Dangerfield has warned the Wellington City Council that NZTA may withhold other transport initiatives if support for the basin reserve flyover is reconsidered in a statement that Cr Iona Pannett says “could be considered threatening”. By doing this NZTA offers a vision of an uncivilized culture having lost its way but dominated by advanced technology, perhaps similar to the setting of the animated series “Masters of the Universe”.
Of course the WCC should be allowed to reconsider the backward looking flyover proposal and bring forward plans for enhanced public transport projects like light rail.
