The highlight of the local body elections this time was the ‘Climate Change’ candidacy of Martin Wilson. It was a delight to see a candidate bring one of the most important issues ever to the front just when the electorate appears to have put it into the too hard basket. To offer the reader of his ads the broad outline of choices available to our society, without using space for a fine print discussion of the ineffectiveness of the usual politically motivated policies like emissions trading, was useful. Hopefully the mayor and some of the councillors will bring this issue to the fore so that effective policies can be discussed. No time to lose.
