It should be no surprize that right wing commentators are going after Steven Joyce and the Prime Minister over the Sky City deal. Their candidate for National Party leadership, Judith Collins of the hard right faction, has been on the outs since the PM was pressured to limit the damage, from Nicky Hager’s book ‘Dirty Politics’, the party might have suffered just before the election. That was a sudden and unexpected blow which has thrown off their timetable and forced them out into the open.
Steven Joyce has often been tipped as the next leader of National so is a natural target. And the biggest obstacle is the PM’s so-called ‘teflon’ image which now must go, probably along with the PM himself. The PM is being morphed from ‘teflon’ to ‘lame duck’. At the same time, Collins is being brought back through her column in the Star Times. Will it play?
