It would appear that Judith Collins is the real leader of the National government when she can get away with such grossly misleading comments about the connection between crime and poverty. John Key is just a front man.
The Ideology of the Absolute Individual has taken hold of public discussion so strongly that many people are willing to deny their intuitive positive connections to the community at large and refuse to confront the various ways that poverty affects them, their neighbours, and communities. Exploitation of the planet through consumerism is seen to be similar to exploitation of people through poverty so there is a willingness to accept exploitation by poverty to save the consumer society from oblivion. Judith Collins is a leader for this fantasy.
