It is shocking, if not surprizing, that the new Labour government has indicated they might participate in a military option against North Korea while talking gingerly around the issue. That in itself is destabilizing. But more so when it is involved under the leadership of such an irrational and unstable leader as Donald Trump who will not see a military option as a last resort, we can be sure. Surely Labour does not think they will be able to moderate Trump’s approach!
To ally with a nuclear weapon force of any seemingly “stable” country, let alone with Trump-land, would be in violation of an anti-nuclear stance, if not yet directly outlawed by our nuclear free legislation. The nuclear free legislation will be increasing challenged, even made redundant, with such continuing military associations in the Post-Truth world. The National Party will be grinning at the prospect of the new Labour government accepting its two greatest threats to the sovereignty of New Zealand, the nuclear military alliance and the current TPP11.
