Hospitality will rebound when the time is right; now is not the right time.

The Editor,  The Herald,  Auckland

24/08/2020

Hospitality is not an ‘essential service’.  Nor has it ever been a steady business sector.   The average life of a restaurant is around three years.  To hear hospitality advocates in northern Auckland rave that the contact tracing app is splendidly successful is to ignore its shortcomings and the reality of its continuing development.

This attitude could be contagious, as also seen in the ignoring of Level 3 distancing guidelines in public recreation areas.  That selfishness is a threat to the containment process.

The hospitality sector will rebound when the time is right.  Rather, the unknown is who will be doing it?

Sincerely,

Richard Keller
